When the Cone family moved to the farm 5 years ago, little did we realize the effect it would have on our lives! We hoped that owning a farm would give us an outlet for the boys’ creativity and allow them to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors (as well as expend five boys ceaseless energy). Little did we know that it would involve raising chickens. Lots and lots of chickens. We now know more than we ever hoped to about chickens!

Living on almost 20 acres is a huge endeavor and takes up a lot of our time during the year. But through all of the work and struggles, we are excited about what we do and that we get to do it in a beautiful spot in Oregon.

The farm is mostly operated by the Cone family childern: Scott, Tyler, Andrew, Daniel and Jacob (ages 22-8) and their older sister Sara. The young men take care of the chickens and maintain the property while Sara takes care of the sheep and cows. The parents provide the advice and the discipline to keep everything going on schedule. The three youngest boys are homeschooled, while Tyler and Scott are pursuing college degrees. Scott will be graduating this June with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

We have grand visions for our farm, but we are moving slowly and cautiously towards each endeavor. Even though taking care of a farm is time consuming, we love it and find it very rewarding to provide healthy and natural food for our community.
Farming is Fun!
