FAQs
Old-timers who taste our chicken tell us it reminds them of chickens from their youth. From before there was Foster Farms. Before chickens were injected with artificial whatchamacallits. Before chickens were cooped up in large, dirty buildings and fed food that contained hormones and medications. Deo Volente Farm chickens are raised where God meant them to be… outside like other birds.
Our chickens are free to roam around on fresh grass and can choose from seeds, grains and bugs to eat when they want to. And even then our chicken grain contains no hormones and medicine and is antibiotic free.
We raise our Cornish-cross chickens in three batches beginning in the spring with the last batch being finished in the middle of August. We receive our Cornish-cross chickens from a well known supplier in the beginning of April. For the first three weeks, each batch is kept in our barn in large brooder pens floored with fresh sawdust. As soon as they have enough feathers to keep them warm outside, without the need of a warming lamp, they are moved out to pasture. There they are kept in our special chicken mobiles and moved to fresh grass twice daily.
Our chickens are processed at 10 weeks which provides for a 6-8lb. bird. We make sure that the chickens are comfortable until the butchering takes place.
Farming is Fun!
